The commissioner of police, who revealed that the suspects were shot and killed, added that five other suspected cultists were arrested by the command.
He said the apprehended suspects were among those that attacked the palace of the Ter Makurdi, Chief Sule Abenga, in Makurdi town of the state.
Dagala, who spoke in Makurdi, the state capital further disclosed that the deceased engaged officials of the Nigerian police force in a gun fight after they carried out the attack.
The commissioner of police said one of the deceased cultists died on the spot while the other died in the hospital during medical attention.
It was gathered that the suspected cultists were apprehended in Kanshio and welfare quarters, a suburb of Makurdi, after they had carried out the attack on the palace.
The assailants also reportedly destroyed vehicles and razed down property belonging to the monarch.
Police investigation hinted that the suspected cultists stormed the palace to kill the son (names withheld) of the Ter Makurdi, who they (suspects) alleged was involved in the murder of a rival cult member in the area.

Cultists have been on the loose in almost all the states in Nigeria, wreaking havoc and cutting peoples lives short, especially that of rival cult members. These cult members continue to thrive because they get support from political leaders who use them as thugs as well as to unleash mayhem on their opponent.
Cultists at times also miss their target and end up killing innocent persons who are not members of the blood thirsty secret society.
Some days ago in second west area of Benin City, Edo State capital, cultists reportedly killed the elder brother of a rival group member after they stormed the family house and couldn’t find their target.
