Babangida Aliyu, Niger state governor, insisted that seniors of the Peoples Democratic Party should voluntary resign following the party defeat in the elections.
Aliyu Insists PDP Leaders Should Resign Voluntarily
Governor Babangida Aliyu

Speaking on May 9, Saturday, in Dutse, Jigawa state, Aliyu claimed that the PDP leaders should emulate the British political leaders who quit after their party’s failure in the Thursday polls.
The governor was quoted as saying by The Punch:
“It is unfortunate that people had to be called to resign. The leaders are supposed to voluntarily resign their positions for the loss at the just concluded general elections.
“It is unfair that they are threatening to form a factional PDP because they were asked to resign.”

Referring to the situation in the UK, Aliyu expressed admiration over the colleague-politicians’ gesture and said that such morality should be brought to the Nigerian polity.
It should be recalled that similar calls have already been made by several top politicians in Nigeria, including Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti state governor.
In particular, Fayose urged Adamu Mu’azu, PDP national chairman, to “be honourable enough to follow the same path as the British LP and Democrats leaders”.
